As you know nursery was all about patterns and shapes… this lead into an interest in size and now things at nursery are all big, small or somewhere in the middle.
Along with all the normal fun we have at nursery, we have had a great time playing all sorts of games that allow us to explore size and measure.
The morning session has had lots of fun investigating who is the tallest and who is the smallest. They each got to measure their height and created a graph to show and compare their size. They also traced around and compared their feet, realising that each persons feet are a different size and therefore we have different sized shoes.
The afternoon session has enjoyed learning about size through stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Smartest Giant in Town.
We enjoyed Goldilocks and the Three Bears through reading, watching and acting. We have had fun comparing the sizes of the three bears, their bowls, chairs and beds.
We also enjoyed reading about the huge giant in The Smartest Giant in Town. We are almost finished creating a big wall mural incorporating the different sized houses of the village, the huge giant and all the varying sized animals he helps out.
Make sure you come and check out the displays!
Coming up in November we have some opportunities for you to stay and play. A sheet will be up on the notice board in nursery shortly for you to add your names to. We are looking at two parents per session please.
For the morning session it will be every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 8.45 and 10.00 am.
For the afternoon session it will be every Monday, Thursday and Friday between 12.05 and 1.15pm.
If you are unable to manage any of these dates please speak to one of the team and we will arrange a date that suits.
Don’t forget that we have in-service days on both Thursday 25th and Friday 26th this week. That means Nursery is shut so we will see you again on Monday! 🙂
Last week we were lucky enough to have some of the boys from Caley Thistle come and teach us a bit about football!
We had such a great time running around in the gym hall. First we played lots of fun games to warm up. Then once our muscles were ready to go we played games which were not only fun but also helped to teach us some ball skills.
We practiced dribbling skills by pretending our footballs were puppies and our feet were the leads. We took our puppies for a walk around the gym hall making sure to keep our puppies on their leads.
Next we practiced stopping our ball. We pretended a cat had got in the room! When we heard the cat meow we had to quickly put our foot on the ball so our puppy wouldn’t chase the cat.
We also played lots of other games which encouraged us to keep the ball on the ground, not use our hands and practice kicking
All in all we had a whole lot of fun while increasing our coordination and gaining confidence in and control of our bodies. Check out the photos…
We would like to say a big, BIG thank you for the donations we have received so far towards extra opportunities within Nursery. If you still have donations for us we would love these soon please!
Any donations are greatly appreciated so once again a BIG thank you!
As of late Nursery has been all about shapes and patterns! We have had lots of fun searching for shapes around the nursery and looking for patterns on our clothes. We have been discovering shapes and patterns throughout our play as well as finding out lots of new and creative ways we can create shapes and patterns of our own.
We have been making shape collages as well as using the stencils to draw our own shapes. Many of the children placed a selection of shapes together turning them into people, rocket-ships, cars, oceans, fish and almost anything else you can imagine.
The children in the morning session thoroughly enjoyed getting messy making patterns and shapes in shaving foam. They spread it all over the table and traced in a variety of different ‘fingery’ patterns.
A favourite for the children in the afternoon were the sand trays. They used their fingers, paintbrushes and a selection of other tools to draw their stripes, squiggles, circles and such.
We have also been enjoying our time in the gym hall. It’s great to have a run around and play some games. Of course many of the games this week incorporated shapes as well as being lots of fun and helping us to learn how to use and share space.
It was definitely a fun filled week! I for one can’t wait to see what other ways we discover to explore shape and pattern further!
Just a wee reminder to bring your ‘Seek and Find’ forms back in. Those who have completed theirs already have had lots of fun I’m told!
Also a wee reminder about the family and culture postcards that were sent home. We have so enjoyed learning more about our friends at nursery, where they are from and seeing lots of photos too. Please keep them coming as we want to learn more about ALL the children!
So, a great BIG thank you to everyone who has returned theirs so far, we really appreciate it!
