August Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We hope you all had a fantastic summer break and enjoyed the beautiful weather we had. We welcome back the children from last session who are remaining in nursery for a further year and extend a very warm welcome to the many children and their families joining us here at Crown for the very first time. We very much look forward to getting to know you all and working closely with parents/carers to provide the best possible learning experiences for your children.

The Nursery Team: (most of whom you have met already) consists of Mrs Caroline Green, Mrs Sheila Bowie, and Mrs Erin Rutherford for the morning session and in the afternoon Mrs Lorna Devlin, Miss Laura Reid and soon to be joining us, Mrs Michelle Newell.

We also have two Pupil Support Assistants, Jill and Elaine and a visiting Principal Teacher of Preschool Education, Mrs Helen Mudie.

Nursery Times: Just a reminder that our nursery hours are:-

Morning Session – 8.45am until 11.55am

Afternoon Session- 12.05pm until 3.15pm

If you are picking up older siblings at the end of school we are happy for you to collect your child from Nursery anytime from 3.00-3.15. However with exception to this we would appreciate if you could endeavour to adhere to the times of the sessions where possible allowing the nursery sessions to run smoothly.

Picking up your child: At the end of each session one of the nursery team will open the gate at the end of the nursery garden. You will then be able to come into the garden and wait to sign out and collect your child from the nursery garden door.

Signing your child in and out of the Nursery: Can you please ensure that you sign your child in when they arrive at the nursery and state clearly in the ‘signing in book’ who will be collecting them at the end of the session. It is exceptionally important that we are aware exactly who is permitted to collect your child each day. We appreciate that from time to time other family/friends etc who may not usually be very familiar to the nursery team, may be required to collect your child on your behalf from the nursery. On such occasions, can you please also speak to a member of staff to let us know, thank you.

If there are any changes during your child’s nursery session to who is recorded in the signing in book as collecting your child you must contact us to let us know. Your child’s safety is very important to us so thank you for your co-operation with this.

Scooter/Bikes: If your child rides a scooter or bike to nursery please leave it to the back of the cloak room. One of the Nursery team will put it outside where it can be collected from the left hand side of the garden when collecting your child. If you are unclear on this please don’t hesitate to ask.

Absences from Nursery: Please advise us as early as possible into your child’s nursery session if he/she is unable to attend nursery due to illness or for any other reason. You should phone the nursery direct on 01463 716576, where you will be able to speak directly to a member of the nursery team.

Clothing/Footwear: Can you please ensure that you child wears clothing to nursery which is suitable for ‘messy’ play! All children love some form of messy play and there are many opportunities for this on a daily basis at nursery both indoors and out. We also recommend shoes suitable for gym to be worn for indoor play in the nursery, these can be kept in the cloakroom. A change of clothing would also be useful for any toileting accidents or children becoming wet during water play etc. If your child is still toilet training you should provide a supply a nappies, wipes and nappy sacks. These can be kept in your child’s ‘nursery bag’ along with their change of clothes. Please also write your child’s name on all belongings brought into the nursery, thank you.

All About Me pages: A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to fill out and return their All About Me pages. If you are yet to return yours then we would appreciate it as soon as possible.

Personal toys from home: We very much discourage children bringing in toys from home as they often cause conflict between children in the nursery or go astray. If a child does bring in toys from home they will be asked by the nursery team to keep them safely in their tray until ‘home’ time.

We would however encourage children to bring in items from home relating to our current topic in the nursery, these would be added to our interactive interest table for the duration of our topic then returned to the child to take home. Please check our plans to see what our topics are and look for things at home that may fit in with our learning. Items from home often initiate great discussion and excitement amongst the children!

Parent Helpers: We will shortly be adding ‘parent helper’ lists for each session to the notice board in the cloakroom. Please add your name to this list if you are able to help and the day/s of the week which would be most suitable for you. We would love parents to come in and spend some time with their child, meet the other children and to see how our nursery runs on a daily basis so please consider this if you are able to!

We will also be introducing stay and play sessions on specific dates each term, starting after the October break. These will enable parents to come in and join us and talk informally to staff about how their child is progressing. The proposed dates for these sessions will follow shortly allowing you to plan in advance.

In addition, we are looking for some ‘green fingered’ adults who would be willing to give up a little of their time to help maintain our nursery garden. We are very fortunate here at Crown to have a fabulous natural play area but it does require some TLC to keep it looking its best. If you can spare some time to help (even for a couple of hours) we would love to hear from you!

Children’s Trays/ Learning Journeys: As you are already aware your child has been allocated a tray in the classroom in which to place pictures etc which they have made in nursery and wish to take home. Children will be encouraged to check this daily.

Each child also has a coloured folder in their tray which should remain in the nursery. This will build up over the year with samples of their work, their learning ‘targets’ (where possible), staff observations and records of their progress in the different curricular areas. Parents/carers are welcome and encouraged to view these regularly within the nursery. These will also be available at any open afternoons, stay and play sessions and parents meetings.

Key workers: Your children have also been allocated into key worker groups. If you would like to know who your child’s key worker is then please ask.

General concerns: The nursery team are here to work in partnership with you at all times to provide the best possible care and learning experiences that we can for your child. If you have any general queries please speak to a member of the nursery team who will endeavour to help you as much as they can. If you wish to speak with someone privately this can also be arranged at the beginning or end of a session.

Nursery Snack: Children are provided with a snack and drink of milk or water during the session and therefore do not need to have drink bottles in their bags.

Staying Eco Friendly: Crown school worked exceptionally hard to achieve green flag status and has now officially been an eco-school for the past two years! We are continuing to reduce the considerable amount of paper that is used in the school and will be utilising electronic methods of mailing parents/carers where possible.

If you have provided a personal e-mail address on your child’s enrolment form then all future newsletters will be e mailed to you. Families who do not have an email address will still be provided with a paper copy.

Nursery blog:

We are proud to now have a Nursery blog up and running! Many of you will have been enjoying this last term. However if you are new or simply haven’t had a chance to check it out yet then please do! It is a place where parents are able to view our plans, news and sneaky peaks of what we have been up to in Nursery.

To access it simply go to www.crownnurseryblog.wordpress.com.

To follow our blog and have new posts sent to your email simply click on the ‘Follow’ toggle at the bottom right hand side of your screen when on the blog page. A small window will appear in which you enter your email address and then click ‘Sign me up’. We hope you enjoy any new posts to come!

Planning We have been settling all our new children in very gently to the nursery this week and have all been getting to know one another. The nursery team will prepare plans every 2 weeks which can be viewed from Monday next week, on the learning notice board in the cloakroom as well as on the blog. Please take some time to view our plans and give us your feedback and suggestions to add any new ideas.

We really look forward to working with and getting to know you all!

Crown Nursery Team

Hello and a very warm welcome to our Nursery Blog for 2014/15!

The purpose of our blog (for any new visitors, and we hope there will be many!) is to cascade Nursery information and share learning with parents, colleagues and the wider community. It is also a perfect place for us to highlight and celebrate our successes so we hope you find it useful.

We look forward to welcoming the children into Nursery for the new school year on Wednesday and getting to know the families which will be joining our Nursery and School community. Every parent/carer who has a child registered with us for this session should have received a letter at the end of last term giving them details of the staggered start times for this week. If there are any queries regarding this or if you have any general concerns about your child starting Nursery please telephone the Nursery tomorrow (Tuesday) on telephone no. 716576 where a member of the nursery team will be happy to help.

Finally, some staffing news! We’re really pleased to announce that Mrs Newell accepted the maternity cover post for the afternoon Nursery session.  She’s such a talented musician, creative soul with a passion for working with young children. She is currently running music classes for pre-school children and toddlers, so some of you may know her.  We’re just waiting for her to receive a start date from the Authority then she’ll be with us.  In the meantime Mrs Caroline Green (who already works for us in the morning session) will cover the afternoon team also.

See you all on Wednesday!!!!!!
